Just over a week after the Town of Coosada sought an injunction from the courts to stop a sewer project by Elmore County, the council voted to settle the matter.

The decision came after an hour-long executive session at Tuesday’s council meeting. The town wanted the project stopped because it claimed the county didn’t have the town’s permission for the project in the town limits of Coosada. The county claims it didn’t need the permission because the project would be constructed in road right of ways deeded to the county.

The county said the project will give up to 40,000 people access to waste water treatment services including the Town of Coosada.

No other comment was made by Coosada officials on the matter and no settlement hearing has been scheduled. The matter is due before circuit court Judge Patrick Pinkston on April 18.

In the executive session, the council also settled on the sale price of $65,000 each for two lots the town owns at the intersection of Coosada Parkway and Coosada Road.

Coosada resident Josh Hagan spoke to the council asking for help at the intersection.

“The stop lines are not lined up with the stop signs,” Hagan said. “I spoke to the count about it and they painted the lines where they were.”

Hagan said the alignment possibly caused a crash he was in at the intersection. He said he was waiting for a log truck to complete a turn and another vehicle would not wait their turn. He said if the signs were moved to the line it would make it difficult for trucks to turn and suggested moving the lines back to the stop signs.

In other business, The council approved hiring former Coosada town clerk Olivia Jones for the same position temporarily at $14 per hour. The council also voted to change financial records to give Jones access to do town business. Coosada court clerk Mya Jimenez also received a $2 per hour raise.

She said the museum is trying to host events in all of Elmore County’s communities and also wanted the towns to help with signage in each town.
