The Elmore County Commission made several appointments to the Elmore County Emergency Medical Services board at its meeting last week.

The board aids in making decisions about EMS services in Elmore County such as contracts with ambulance services.

“Each entity in the compact has a board appointment,” Elmore County Commission chair Bart Mercer said.

Appointed to the board were Town of Coosada police police chief Leon Smith Jr.; Town of Elmore’s Christopher Sisson; Tallassee Fire Department assistant chief David Rogers; Town of Deatsville’s Sandy Bradshaw; Wetumpka fire chief Greg Willis; and Elmore County Commission chair Bart Mercer.

Others appointed to the board were James Brandon Cardwell, Ginger Henry and Eric Jones.

The commission authorized accepting a 2024 Homeland Security Grant for the county’s CERT program. It trains volunteers how to respond during disasters.

The county applied for grants to fund radios and communications towers as well.

“Our staff has done a good job at trying to capture any funding that is available for communications in our county,” Mercer said.
