The Elmore County Revenue Commissioner has handled nearly $26 million in property taxes since October and has $473,000 left to collect.Â
Elmore County revenue commissioner Thomas Lee Macon said the last notices were mailed out Monday in an effort to collect the past-due balance.
“We mailed out our certified court notices of delinquent taxes,” Macon said. “It is for 1,903 accounts which is about 400 more accounts than we had last year.”
Macon’s office mailed out notices in January seeking to collect taxes on 4,700 accounts. Those were a combination of commercial and personal property taxes due by the Dec 31, 2019 deadline.Â
Monday’s mailing serves as the last reminder before the revenue commissioner’s office prepares for the next step to collect unpaid taxes.
“People have until March 23 to respond and pay past-due property taxes before the property is advertised in April for the annual property tax lien sale,” Macon said.
Macon said the annual tax lien sale for Elmore County is online this year and will be held at 9 a.m. May 6.
Bidders can register for the auction beginning April 1 and may pay with cash, debit cards, credit cards and letter of credit.
Macon said in the coming weeks his department’s website will have a link on its homepage that directs people where to go and how to register for the sale.Â
