The Elmore County Panthers girl basketball team has been on an exciting journey of growth and development all season long. Addison Hicks is one of the key players who has had a large part in the process.
Hicks is a junior forward for Elmore County. Panthers coach Kyle Caldwell is very high on Hicks and her efforts so far this season.
“Addison is very hard working and is very coachable," Caldwell said.
The main element the Panthers have working in their favor every time they take the floor is athleticism. As the season stands right now, the Panthers are currently sitting at 4-5 but have been in the mix during the fourth quarter in every outing. Hicks is part of a starting rotation for Elmore County that flows well, especially when she plays off guards Lalah Culpepper and Cherish Foye.
Hicks is a stretch forward as she utilizes an athletic, 5-foot-9 frame to allow her access to rebounds and second-chance shot opportunities. Hicks is averaging almost seven boards and six points per game.
“She is definitely one of our toughest competitors that we have on our team, and she is our best defensive player,” Caldwell said. “I am super proud of the work that she has put in to make strides on the offensive side of the ball as well.”
In their last game at Holtville, the Panthers were tasked with facing one of the hottest teams in the area as the Bulldogs have yet to lose a game this season. Hicks managed to score eight points against Holtville to go along with eight rebounds.
Hicks has already committed to play collegiate softball at Faulkner University and is constantly showing signs of developing skills on the court this winter.
Behind Hicks and Culpepper, the Panthers will look to make some noise this week as they go into the Elmore County Basketball Tournament. Elmore County gets started Thursday against Wetumpka.
