A member of the 19th Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s office in Prattville turned herself in to authorities after being accused of embezzling funds from the office.
Wetumpka’s Lisa Noland, who was working with the Autauga County Diversionary program within the district attorney’s office, was charged with theft of property and usage of a public office for personal gain.
Noland, 53, had worked in the district attorney’s office for more than 10 years.
After close of business on Sept. 5 investigators within the district attorney’s office found where there was money missing from the program account.
District Attorney Randall Houston said it’s still unclear how much money was taken.
“I have personally hired every single person who is employed by my office, and they are like a second family to me,” Houston said. “When something like this happens it shakes you to the core and the disappointment it causes makes it difficult to adequately express.”
After district attorney investigators discovered there were missing funds, they obtained financial records and receipt books from the Autauga County office on Sept. 8.
On the same day, a formal request was made for assistance from the Alabama Bureau of Investigation.
Houston said Noland is no longer employed with the district attorney’s office.
She was booked into the Autauga County Jail on a $20,000 bond.
