It really is the small things that can show who someone truly is.
Imagine pulling into the parking lot of your local grocery store, finding the perfect spot, only to be met with a shopping cart in the middle of its path. It’s something that we’ve all seen in our day-to-day life that seems so small, but it reality is much more than a simple task.
It isn’t about the task of pushing the shopping cart 20 feet to its destination; it’s ultimately about what you do when no one is watching. As we all know, a task as simple as that is not going to be met with applause or a key to the city, but it shows respect.
Respect for the other customers and respect for the workers who have to wrangle up all the deserted carts left across the parking lot.
To be distinguished as a good person, you don’t need to make a grand spectacle or a heroic gesture. To be a good person is a culmination of those small things that ultimately make the biggest difference.
Picking up trash when you see it, holding the door open for someone behind you and putting up a shopping cart show empathy, respect and responsibility. So the next time you find yourself pushing a shopping cart back to its spot, remember you are doing the right thing.
You are playing a part in your community and are making it a better place. Because we are all in this together and even the smallest acts can make the biggest difference.
