Main Street Wetumpka took home numerous awards during the Main Street Alabama Day celebration Thursday night at Lake Point State Park in Eufaula.
The organization received the Excellence in Fundraising award for its annual Wine Pull and the Excellence in Placemaking award for its Tulotoma Snail Trail project. Additionally, Main Street Wetumpka named member Joe Champion as the winner of the Community Award for his volunteerism.
“We are absolutely thrilled to win these awards,” Main Street Wetumpka Executive Director Jenny Stubbs said. “We know our members have dedicated time and resources to accomplishing much during our first two years, and this recognition makes it that much more rewarding.”
Main Street Wetumpka President Dennis Fain added, “Both of our efforts were recognized by Main Street Alabama for going above and beyond what you normally see.
Fain said Main Street Wetumpka’s Wine Pull is held every spring, and is the result of a partnership with the Wind Creek Hotel and Casino.
“We’re able to raise a nice sum of money each year,” he said.
Fain said the Tulotoma Snail Trail is a collaborative effort to make the downtown area more aesthetically appealing. He said Champion was selected for the Community Award because of his efforts to raise money for Main Street Wetumpka. Fain said the pancake breakfasts Champion spearheaded, along with other fundraising endeavors, brought nearly $5,000 to Main Street Wetumpka.
Fain said winning the awards felt “gratifying” to many members and served as encouragement for their future endeavors.
“There is a lot of effort that is put into revitalizing a downtown,” Fain said. “It really is motivation to keep us going.”
He thanked the community for its support, and said Main Street Wetumpka is always seeking new members and volunteers. For more information about Main Street Wetumpka, visit Mainstreetwetumpka.org.
