Walmart in Alexander City to dispense FDA authorized COVID-19 medications

The statewide grocery tax was lowered by 1 percent, effective Sept. 1, but some Walmart customers may have actually seen more tax charged early in the day.

According to a statement released by Walmart, officials are aware of the problem and are working to rectify the issue.

"Our systems mistakenly charged both the old rate and the new rate at the time of sale," the statement reads. "This issue has been fixed."

In the release, it was stated customers who used a credit card should automatically see a refund, and only those who paid cash need to return to the store for a refund. The receipt would show two separate sales tax amounts paid, and it is the higher of the two taxes that will be refunded.Â
