**Amendment**

 

ALDOT was able to complete the necessary repairs to the roadway/bridge and the right lane is also now back open. As a result, all southbound lanes of Interstate 85 are now back open. 

 

**FINAL UPDATE**

 

The second crash which occurred at the 42 mile marker on I-85 is currently clear and the roadway is back open.

 

The original crash which occurred at the 38 mile marker on I-85 and caused the detour has resulted in an extended left southbound lane closure while ALDOT completes roadway/bridge repairs. The right southbound lane at the 38 mile marker is now back open. ALEA Troopers will continue to monitor the extended left lane closure and provide updates accordingly.

**SECOND UPDATE**

 

At approximately 12:47 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, a second crash occurred involving multiple vehicles on Interstate 85 near the 42 mile marker just before Exit 42 where the Detour was established for the overturned tractor-trailer located at the 38 mile marker. Currently both southbound lanes of I-85 are closed and will be for an undetermined amount of time.

 

Please expect delays in this area and, if possible, please seek an alternate route.

 

ALEA Troopers will continue to monitor both these crashes and provide updates accordingly.

**UPDATE**

 

A detour has been established at Exit 42 by ALDOT redirecting all southbound traffic. We will continue to monitor and update as soon as the scene has been cleared.

OPELIKA POST – A single-vehicle crash involving an overturned commercial vehicle occurred at approximately 4:03 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, and has caused lane closure. The right southbound lane of Interstate 85 near the 38 mile marker in Macon County is currently closed while wrecker crews’ recovery the vehicle. The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is currently on scene providing traffic control. Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division are also currently on scene investigating and will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates accordingly.
