Elmore County Superintendent of Education Dr. Jeff Langham added a new hat to his growing collection Tuesday morning. Langham was one of two appointees named by Gov. Robert Bentley to serve on the Alabama State University board of trustees.
“The governor approached me with this opportunity and after considering it I said yes,” said Langham. “This is an excellent opportunity for me to give back to the university that provided me a pathway to complete my doctoral degree.”
Langham will represent the 3rd Congressional District on the board of trustees. He and Angela McKenzie, a Regions Bank vice president, will take their places on the board immediately.
“Technically this is to fill out a remaining term of a board member,” said Langham. “But my letter of appointment actually reads that this is a 12-year appointment until 2026.”
Confirmation hearings for the new board members will be held during the next regular state senate session.
“I am honored to have been asked by Gov. Bentley to serve as a trustee for Alabama State,” Langham said. “I look forward to working closely with President (Gwendolyn) Boyd and the other trustees as we work toward a great future for Alabama State University.”
Langham has served as Elmore County’s superintendent since he was first elected in 2004. His career in education has encompassed a variety of roles: school system curriculum coordinator, school administrator, staff development trainer, public relations director and classroom teacher.
