A Wetumpka police officer will serve a two-day suspension without pay after an internal investigation revealed the officer harassed a Wetumpka High student on school grounds.
A departmental report from acting Chief Lt. Robert Silwowski to Mayor Jerry Willis says officer David Fletcher violated department and city personnel policies when he questioned a WHS student about her current address.
The child’s mother filed a complaint on Aug. 8 saying that Fletcher “questioned (the child) heavily.”
The mother said the officer’s actions were made at the request of her husband with whom she is involved in a “heated divorce case.”
The mother said in her complaint to the city that she believes the action is “a ploy to have (the child) removed from school in order to help him gain custody.”
Following the investigation, it was determined Fletcher’s conduct was “unbecoming an officer” and his actions were “excessive, unwarranted or unjustified.”
