A Wetumpka police officer will serve a two-day suspension without pay after an internal investigation revealed the officer harassed a Wetumpka High student on school grounds.

A departmental report from acting Chief Lt. Robert Silwowski to Mayor Jerry Willis says officer David Fletcher violated department and city personnel policies when he questioned a WHS student about her current address.

The child’s mother filed a complaint on Aug. 8 saying that Fletcher ā€œquestioned (the child) heavily.ā€

The mother said the officer’s actions were made at the request of her husband with whom she is involved in a ā€œheated divorce case.ā€

The mother said in her complaint to the city that she believes the action is ā€œa ploy to have (the child) removed from school in order to help him gain custody.ā€

Following the investigation, it was determined Fletcher’s conduct was ā€œunbecoming an officerā€ and his actions were ā€œexcessive, unwarranted or unjustified.ā€
