In our modern world, we all have too much to do and way more distractions than we need.
Maybe you had a bad day at work, or your child is sick. Maybe someone you loved died, or your car was repo’d.
But there is no good reason to treat people poorly.
It seems in our world of social media, we have become so self-centered we have forgotten to treat others how we would like to be treated. The “bravery" people use to be mean online appears to have carried over into face-to-face interactions.
It costs nothing to smile. It costs nothing to speak kindly. It costs nothing to treat your waitress, your child, a coworker or cashier as a person who may be going through something worse than you.
One smile, one kind word or even offering to help someone may be just the thing the other person needs to make it through another day. Your kindness may also mark a positive turning point in someone’s life that you may never find out about.
Kindness and respect go hand-in-hand. When you show someone kindness, you also show you respect them as a person. And a respected person is also much kinder.
It only takes a second to smile or say “Hi.” It’s easy to hold the door open for a mom with three small children. It could be a life saver if you see someone out and about who looks upset and ask “Are you OK?”
If all of us strived for one act of kindness a day, just think how our family, our town, our world would change.
One small act of kindness, that’s all we need to completely change our own or someone else’s life.
